Former Resident (151)

The Subclass 151 Former Resident visa gives you permanent entry and residence in Australia if you meet the visa’s rules (age and long-residence or defence service). From 23 July 2025 you can import a paper application into ImmiAccount to manage it online. The visa is a permanent visa so, if granted, you can live in Australia indefinitely.

What this visa lets you do

• Live in Australia permanently.
• Work and study in Australia.
• Enrol in Medicare (Australia’s public health scheme), if eligible.
• Travel to and from Australia while any travel facility on the visa is valid.

Who can apply / main eligibility points

You must meet one of the following:

• The age and long‑residence requirement (you were previously a permanent resident and meet the residence/age conditions), or
• The Australian Defence Force service requirement (eligible past service in the ADF).
