Prospective Marriage Visa Subclass 300
Apply for a Prospective Marriage Visa (Subclass 300) to Join Your Partner in Australia
Overview
The Prospective Marriage visa (subclass 300) allows you to come to Australia to marry your prospective spouse (who is an Australian citizen, Australian permanent resident, or eligible New Zealand citizen) and then apply onshore for a Partner visa. It is a temporary, offshore-applied visa designed to facilitate marriage and subsequent transition to the Partner visa pathway.
Do You Have What It Takes?
- ✔ You are 18 years or older
- ✔ You are sponsored by an Australian citizen, PR, or eligible NZ citizen
- ✔ You and your prospective spouse genuinely intend to marry before the visa expires
- ✔ You have met your prospective spouse in person as adults (face-to-face) after turning 18 and know each other personally
- ✔ You are outside Australia when you apply (and any family applying with you must be outside Australia)
- ✔ You can be in or outside Australia at the time of decision
- ✔ Meet health and character requirements; sign the Australian Values Statement; no outstanding government debts
Why Choose This Path?
- Stay in Australia for 9–15 months from grant to get married
- Work and study in Australia (no government study subsidies)
- Travel to and from Australia multiple times while the visa is valid
- After marriage, apply onshore for the Partner visa (subclass 820/801) with a reduced government charge
Your Roadmap to Success
- Confirm eligibility and sponsor’s status (citizen/PR/eligible NZ).
- Gather identity and relationship evidence, including proof of in person meeting and intent to marry.

- Sponsor completes the sponsorship form linked to your application.
- Pay the visa application charge (from AUD 9,365) and receive acknowledgement.
- Undertake health examinations and obtain police certificates for required countries.
- Upload all supporting documents, translations, and evidence of genuine intention to marry.
- Respond promptly to any requests for further information, biometrics, or interviews.
- On grant, enter Australia, get married within the visa validity, and then lodge the onshore Partner visa (820/801).
