Bridging Visa A (010)
This visa lets you stay in Australia temporarily while you wait for a decision on another visa application. It's free and allows you to work if you meet certain conditions.
Overview
The Bridging Visa A (BVA) is a temporary visa that allows you to stay in Australia legally after your current visa expires and while your application for a new, substantive visa is being processed. It also covers situations where you're waiting for a judicial review to be completed.
What you can do with this visa
- Stay in Australia: You can stay in Australia lawfully until a decision is made on your substantive visa application, or until any related court proceedings are finished.
- Work: You may be able to work, provided you meet the specific requirements.
Eligibility
To be eligible for this visa, you must:
- Be in Australia: You must be in Australia when you apply for the visa.
- Be in Australia at time of grant: If you meet all the eligibility requirements, you must also be in Australia when the visa is granted.
How to apply
As of August 1, 2022, you can no longer apply for a Bridging Visa A, B, or C in person or using a paper form. All applications must be submitted online through ImmiAccount or the online webform.
