What this visa lets you do

If granted, the Resident Return Visa lets you travel in and out of Australia as many times as you want until the travel validity on your visa expires. The travel facility can be up to 5 years depending on your situation. If your travel validity has already expired (or expired while you were outside Australia), this visa lets you return to Australia as a permanent resident.

Stay: Permanent - the visa re‑confirms your status as a permanent resident for travel purposes.

Cost: AUD 490.00 to apply online; AUD 570.00 to apply on paper.

Who can apply / eligibility

You must be one of the following:

• an Australian permanent resident, or
• a former Australian permanent resident whose last permanent visa was not cancelled, or
• a former Australian citizen who lost or renounced Australian citizenship.

Note: Australian citizens cannot apply for this visa. If you are already in Australia as a permanent visa holder you do not need this visa unless you want to leave and return as a permanent resident.

Important notes and cautions

• If your travel facility has expired while you are outside Australia, you may be unable to return as a permanent resident unless you obtain an RRV.
• Travel validity can be up to 5 years but may be shorter depending on your circumstances.
