Child Visa Subclass 101

The Child Visa (Subclass 101) allows a child living outside Australia to join their parent in Australia and live there permanently. It’s designed for children who depend on an Australian citizen, permanent resident, or eligible New Zealand citizen parent. 

What You Can Do with This Visa 

• Live permanently in Australia with your parent. 
• Study and work in Australia without restrictions. 
• Access Medicare (public healthcare). 
• Travel in and out of Australia for five years from the visa grant. 
• Become eligible for Australian citizenship once residency requirements are met. 

Eligibility 

• The child must be outside Australia when applying and when the visa is decided. 
• Must be under 18, or 18–25 and a full-time dependent student, or over 18 with a disability that makes them dependent. 
• Must be single (not married, engaged, or in a de facto relationship). 
• The sponsoring parent must be an Australian citizen, permanent resident, or eligible New Zealand citizen. 
• Must meet health and character requirements. 

How to Apply 

• Ensure the child meets age, relationship, and dependency requirements. 
• Gather all the supporting documents for your application. 
• Submit the visa application while the child is outside Australia. 
• Wait for assessment and decision; once approved, the child can move to Australia as a permanent resident.
