The Subclass 802 visa lets a child in Australia stay permanently with their parent.

The Child Visa (Subclass 802) lets a child already in Australia live permanently with their parent, who is an Australian citizen, permanent resident, or eligible New Zealand citizen.

What You Can Do with This Visa

Live in Australia permanently.
Study and work without restrictions.
Access Medicare and other permanent resident benefits.
Travel in and out of Australia for 5 years from visa grant.
Later apply for Australian citizenship when eligible.

Eligibility

The child must be in Australia when applying and when the visa is granted.
Must be single (not married, engaged, or in a de facto relationship).
Usually under 18 but can be 18–25 if studying full-time or over 18 and dependent due to disability.
The sponsoring parent must be an Australian citizen, PR, or eligible NZ citizen and able to provide care and support.
Must meet health, character, and dependency requirements.

How to Apply

Confirm the child’s eligibility and gather documents (identity, relationship proof, health/character evidence).
Lodge the application onshore while the child is in Australia.
From 23 July 2025, applicants can import paper applications into Immi Account to upload documents and respond to requests.
Once approved, the child becomes a permanent resident with full rights to live, study, and work in Australia.
