Dependent Child Visa
The Subclass 445 visa lets a child stay in Australia while their parent’s Partner visa is processed.
Overview
The Dependent Child Visa (Subclass 445) lets a child of a parent who holds a temporary Partner visa stay in or move to Australia temporarily while their parent’s permanent Partner visa is being processed. It helps keep families together during the transition to permanent residency.
What You Can Do with This Visa
- Live in Australia temporarily while the parent’s permanent Partner visa is under process.
- Study and work in Australia.
- Travel in and out of Australia freely while the visa is valid.
- Later be added to the parent’s permanent Partner visa application to gain permanent residency.
Eligibility
- Must be a dependent child of a parent who holds a temporary Partner visa.
- Must be under 18, or over 18 and financially dependent on the parent.
- Must meet health and character requirements.
- The sponsoring parent must have lodged a valid permanent Partner visa application with the same sponsor for the child.
How to Apply
- Check the child’s dependency and parent’s visa eligibility.
- Gather all the supporting documents.
- Lodge the application and complete health and character checks.
- Wait for the decision; once granted, the child can live in Australia until the parent’s permanent Partner visa is finalized.
- When the parent’s visa is approved, include the child in that application to gain permanent residence.
