This visa lets a child who is single come to Australia to live with a relative if their parents are deceased, can't care for them or can't be found.

Overview

The Orphan Relative visa (Subclass 117) lets a child outside Australia live permanently with an eligible relative if their parents have died, are permanently incapacitated, or can’t be located. It provides a pathway for orphaned children to reunite with family in Australia. 

What You Can Do with This Visa 

  • Live, study and work in Australia. 
  • Access to Australia’s Public Healthcare Scheme. 
  • Travel in and out of Australia for 5 years from visa grant. 
  • Apply for Australian citizenship when eligible. 

Eligibility 

  • The child must be outside Australia at application and grant. 
  • Must be under 18, single, and dependent. 
  • Parents are deceased, permanently incapacitated, or can’t be found. 
  • Must have an eligible sponsor (relative who is an Australian citizen, permanent resident, or eligible NZ citizen). 
  • Must meet health and character requirements. 

How to Apply 

  • Confirm eligibility and secure an eligible sponsor. 
  • Prepare documents (proof of identity, relationship, parental status, sponsor’s citizenship or residency proof). 
  • Lodge application online or by paper through Immi Account. 
  • Wait for processing, once approved, the child can travel and live permanently in Australia.
