The Remaining Relative visa (Subclass 115) lets people with all close family in Australia live there permanently with their relatives.
Overview
The Remaining Relative visa (Subclass 115) is a permanent visa for people living outside Australia who have no close relatives outside the country. It allows them to join their only close family members who are Australian citizens, permanent residents, or eligible New Zealand citizens. This visa provides permanent residence but has very long processing times due to limited places each year.
What You Can Do
- Live in Australia permanently.
- Work and study in Australia.
- Enrol in Australia’s public healthcare.
- Travel freely for 5 years (then need Resident Return Visa or citizenship).
- Sponsor relatives to come to Australia.
Eligibility
- Applicant and partner must have no other near relatives outside Australia.
- Must have an eligible sponsor (Australian citizen/PR/eligible NZ citizen) who is a close relative and settled in Australia.
- Assurance of Support required.
- Must meet health and character requirements.
- Must be offshore at both lodgement and grant.
How to Apply
- Check eligibility and confirm sponsor.
- Gather all the supporting documents for your application.
- Lodge application offshore and pay fees.
- Receive queue date and wait until your place is released.
- After receiving the grant, migrate, live, and work in Australia permanently.
Note: From 23 July 2025, applicants for Other Family visas (subclasses 114, 115, 116, 835, 836 and 838) can import their paper applications into Immi Account. Applications lodged outside Australia before 25 June 2020 cannot be imported.
