Special Purpose Visa

The Special Purpose Visa is a temporary visa automatically granted (by law) to certain non-citizens who hold a “prescribed status” rather than through a standard visa application. 

What You Can Do with This Visa

• Enter and stay in Australia while you hold the recognised prescribed status. 
• Conduct duties or activities tied to that status without needing a separate visa application. 

Eligibility Criteria (Who Qualifies)

You qualify if you:

• Hold a “prescribed status” (examples include being a member of certain foreign armed forces, part of an official governmental delegation, airline crew, ship crew of a non-military ship, or official guest of the Australian Government). 
• Are present in Australia under that status or arrive under that status.
• Comply with the laws relating to your duties and the status you hold 

How to Apply 

This visa is automatically granted to the applicants when they arrived in Australia.
