Job Ready Program
The Job Ready Program (JRP) is an employment‑based skills assessment run by Trades Recognition Australia (TRA) for eligible international graduates with an Australian trade or associate‑degree qualification. The JRP helps you develop workplace skills in Australia and produces a skills‑assessment outcome that can be used when applying for a skilled migration visa.

What the Job Ready Program is
The JRP is an on‑the‑job pathway that lets eligible international graduates demonstrate they meet Australian occupational standards through supervised employment and milestone checks. It is available only after a successful Provisional Skills Assessment (PSA) that verifies your Australian qualification and identifies you as eligible to enter the JRP.
Who the JRP is for
The JRP is for international students who:
- hold an Australian trade or associate professional qualification issued by a Registered Training Organisation (RTO), and
- have completed a Provisional Skills Assessment confirming their qualification is suitable for the JRP, and
- meet any program and visa eligibility requirements (for example, lawful onshore status and appropriate work rights).
Check your PSA outcome and TRA guidance to confirm eligibility before applying.
Program structure and key steps
- Complete a Provisional Skills Assessment (PSA) and receive a PSA outcome that allows JRP entry.
- Enrol in the JRP through TRA’s online portal and pay the program fee.
- Undertake employment in your nominated occupation in Australia and meet the JRP milestones (periods of assessed employment, evidence submissions and workplace‑based verification).
- TRA reviews submitted employment evidence and may require workplace assessments or RTO involvement where specified.
- On successful completion of JRP requirements, TRA issues a final Migration Skills Assessment outcome suitable for Home Affairs visa applications.
TRA may refer to program components/forms such as JRE/JRWA/JRFA — consult TRA guidance for what applies to your occupation.
What TRA assesses in the JRP
TRA assesses:
- whether your practical workplace performance meets Australian occupational standards;
- employment evidence (duties, hours, period of work, employer contacts);
- any program‑specific competency demonstrations or workplace assessments required for your trade.
A successful JRP outcome confirms you have the trade skills required for migration and employment in Australia.
Documents and evidence you will need
Typical documents include:
- PSA outcome and RTO qualification paperwork;
- passport/identity documents;
- employment contracts, payslips and detailed employer references (duties, dates, hours);
- any workplace assessment reports or RTO certificates requested by TRA;
- accredited English translations for non‑English documents where required.
Follow TRA’s program‑specific evidence checklist exactly to avoid delays.
Timeframes and fees
- The JRP requires a minimum participation period (TRA publishes the exact minimum, commonly 12 months for many streams).
- Processing times vary depending on completeness of evidence and program workload.
- Fees apply for PSA, JRP enrolment and any workplace assessment components — check TRA for current fees and published processing times.
Outcomes and next steps
- Outcomes can be “suitable” (successful skills assessment), “provisional” (further steps required) or “not suitable.”
- A successful JRP outcome is used when lodging skilled migration applications with the Department of Home Affairs.
- A positive TRA outcome does not replace any state/territory licensing or registration requirements — check licensing rules for your occupation and jurisdiction.
Appeals and reviews
If you disagree with a TRA decision, TRA publishes an Assessment Review Policy and procedures for requesting a review. Follow the specified timeframes and instructions exactly.
Practical tips
- Begin with the TRA Program Pathfinder to confirm the correct program for your situation.
- Prepare employer references that clearly describe actual tasks, hours and supervision — vague references can delay assessment.
- Keep certified copies and originals of all documents; ensure translations are by accredited translators.
- Track your application in the TRA online portal and respond promptly to any requests for additional evidence.
Where to get help
Use TRA’s official program guidelines, forms and FAQs for detailed requirements. For visa matters consult the Department of Home Affairs or a registered migration agent. For licensing questions contact the relevant state/territory regulator.
